Christian Peacemaker Teams-Stupid and Ungrateful

Here's the statement from Christian Peacemaker Teams on the "release" of three of their members in Iraq.

These people are stupid for going to Iraq thinking that everything will be ok.  They are stupid when they continue to think that the United States and the coalition is to blame for the capture of their friends, and the torture and murder of Tom Fox.   They are stupid to describe the rescue of their friends as a "release."

They are stupid when they say "They knew that their only protection was in the power of the love of God and of their Iraqi and international co-workers."  In reality, their only protection was in the power of the US and British soldiers who rescued them.  I am sure God had something to do with that, but it was probably not in the manner that CPT had in mind.

It only took until the 6th paragraph of the statement for CPT to blame the US and our allies for the kidnapping of these four individuals-

"We believe that the illegal occupation of Iraq by Multinational Forces is the root cause of the insecurity which led to this kidnapping and so much pain and suffering in Iraq. The occupation must end."

In the 719 word statement, there is not one word of thanks or gratitude for the soldiers who rescued these folks.  That makes the CPT ungrateful as hell.

One other thought-if these dudes are so concerned about the plight of the Iraqis, were they in Iraq working on behalf of the Iraqis prior to March 20, 2003?  Anyone know?

LATER (March 24, 2006 11:48a ET):  Well, they probably got a lot of angry calls yesterday, so this was added to the CPT statement last night.  Ok, so maybe I will take "ungrateful" off the post title......NOT!  They were so happy their buds were free that they forgot to thank the troops who rescued them.  Sure.  I'm thinking that they should take the word "adequately" out of their addenda.  HT to Michelle Malkin.

LATER (March 24, 2006 7:38p ET):  James Taranto has more from Best of the Web on OpinionJournal.com.  His final comment is particularly appropriate.  Just scroll down to Addendum: But they support the troops.
