President Bush is Doing His Job
Listening to the namby pamby Democrats whine about "big brother run amok" this weekend sure has made me feel a lot safer from the next Al Qaeda attack on the United States. Not hardly.
So, someone actually voted for these people and their idiotic behavior?
There are a bunch of good writers out there putting the likes of Kennedy, Reid, Feingold, Pelosi, Levin, et al in their place as the leaders of the Defeatocrats. Here's just a sample:
Byron York from NRO on why the President ordered the wiretaps and who was complaining about the FISA Court sluggishness (the sainted 9/11 commish).
James S. Robbins from NRO thanking the New York times for their coverage.
President Bush in his address to the nation last night-
"We will continue to listen to honest criticism, and make every change that will help us complete the mission. Yet there is a difference between honest critics who recognize what is wrong, and defeatists who refuse to see that anything is right.
Defeatism may have its partisan uses, but it is not justified by the facts."
Do you think the Defeatocrats figured out that he was speaking about them? I doubt it.
John Hinderaker of Powerline, who now calls them the "Wile E. Coyote Democrats." He even gets an email from Chuck Jones' (Wyle's creator) former producer. This post includes a section of John McIntyre's piece from RCP this morning entitled "Have the Democrats Walked Into a Trap...Again?"
And finally, The President, in his news conference this morning.
Q It was, why did you skip the basic safeguards of asking courts for permission for the intercepts?
THE PRESIDENT: First of all, I -- right after September the 11th, I knew we were fighting a different kind of war. And so I asked people in my administration to analyze how best for me and our government to do the job people expect us to do, which is to detect and prevent a possible attack. That's what the American people want. We looked at the possible scenarios. And the people responsible for helping us protect and defend came forth with the current program, because it enables us to move faster and quicker. And that's important. We've got to be fast on our feet, quick to detect and prevent.
We use FISA still -- you're referring to the FISA court in your question -- of course, we use FISAs. But FISA is for long-term monitoring. What is needed in order to protect the American people is the ability to move quickly to detect.
Now, having suggested this idea, I then, obviously, went to the question, is it legal to do so? I am -- I swore to uphold the laws. Do I have the legal authority to do this? And the answer is, absolutely. As I mentioned in my remarks, the legal authority is derived from the Constitution, as well as the authorization of force by the United States Congress.
As I said here, President Bush is doing what I hired him to do in the last two elections, namely to keep America safe while preserving, protecting and defending the Constitution of the United States to the best of his ability.
It is almost impossible for me to visualize Al Gore, John Kerry, or any of today's Democrat leaders taking a strong stand on anything other than destroying President Bush, and in the process America along with him.
Cheers to The President for finally taking the offensive on the entire war on terrorism issue and putting the Democrats on the ah, hmmmm, a, you know, ah, hmmm, defensive.
These people are not only clueless, they are dangerous to America's safety and our lives.
LATER (December 19, 2005 3:49p ET): Here is another blurb fresh from the keyboard of James Taranto in Best of the Web on OpinionJournal.com about my favorite Defeatocrat, Ted Kennedy. The title of Taranto's entry-"The Chapppaquiddick-Tehran Axis." Taranto has a unique ability to work Chappaquiddick into every Ted Kennedy story and I love it. His favorite line-"Mary Jo Kopechne could not be reached for comment."
LATER (December 19, 2005 7:02p ET): I am listening to Rush's first hour podcast from earlier today and he calls the Democrats "namby pamby" too. Right on Rush!

I am reminded of a quote by Ben Franklin, those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. You fall under that line. What would we accomplish if we surrender our liberty, our freedoms, our rights, the very things that make this country so great.
I agree with the war on terror and the Iraq war but we need a new plan. To answer your question, General Wes. Clark could answer the problems we are facing.
