On Sunday morning, members of the Hospitality and Fellowship Team worked the water stop in Spring Ridge for the 2010 Frederick Marathon.
Our stop is at mile 19.5, so we served water, Powerade, and Vaseline to the hardy runners competing in the full marathon. Setup began shortly before 7am and we finished up right around 11. Approximately 1100 runners were entered in the full marathon, which means we prepared about 2500 cups of water and Powerade.
We were assisted this year by a very enthusiastic and ambitious group of Girl Scouts and several students from TJ.
Thanks to all who helped and congrats to the runners!

It's that time of year again when the weather turns warm, the spring flowers pop up, and I begin begging for volunteers to help run the St. John's Hospitality/Fellowship Team Water Stop at the Frederick Running Festival (aka the Frederick Marathon)!
We will be located at mile 19.5 again in the lovely Spring Ridge Development. After freezing tempuratures, snow, gale force winds, and rainy downpours in past years, we are due for a beautiful, sunny spring day this time.
Everyone is invited to help us set up the water stop, hand out water, gatorade, and gel packs to runners while cheering them on. It really is a fun time for everyone and our H/F Team earns $350 for our efforts!!

I would like to express a huge "thank you" to everyone who volunteered for Msgr. Murphy's reception. So many kind and caring folks came out to help with readying the hall, setting up, serving, cleaning and many also donated food and beverages for the event. It turned out to be a wonderful occasion. Everything turned out extremely well. Msgr. Murphy was delighted with everyone's efforts and very moved that so many parishioners came to wish him well and to celebrate with him.
Please join team members, brothers of the Bishop McNamara Council of the Knights of Columbus, and fellow parishioners in helping to decorate the church for
Christmas Tuesday night, December 22, 2009 beginning at 5pm.
This is a major project and we can use all the help we can get. Expect it to take 4-5 hours to complete.
The Hospitality and Fellowship Team is proud to present “ScareFare” in the Hall on Friday, October 30th at 7pm.
Come celebrate Halloween with us at this family-oriented night out. Bring a dish (something ghoulish, perhaps) and a bag of candy to share for the potluck dinner. Costumes are encouraged, but optional. There will be a children's movie and also a scary movie (The Birds) for the more brave at heart! If interested in attending “ScareFare”, please contact Becky Oden via email, or call her at 301-698-0321.
The Hospitality and Fellowship Team will be doing a Fall Bike Ride on Saturday, October 31 along the Western Maryland Rail Trail near Hancock, MD. You are welcome to bring your lunch to eat along the trail or we will also be stopping in Hancock to eat during the ride.
Please call Becky Oden, 301-698-0321, or e-mail Becky by clicking here for additional information or questions. You can read more about the Western Maryland Rail Trail here.
Everyone is welcome, please come join us for a day of fun.
Please join us for an evening of good food, family fun, and fellowship at St. John’s on Friday, September 25th. To feed your hunger, the local council of the Knights of Columbus will be serving all you can eat spaghetti, with all the fixings, in the hall from 5-8pm. Dinner is $11 for adults with reduced prices for kids and seniors. The Knights support many parish activities and the funds raised at this dinner will support the Knights charitable efforts at St. John’s and the larger Frederick community.
Stay with us after dinner (starting approximately 730p) for a showing of “The Chronicles of Narnia-The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe” presented by the Hospitality/Fellowship Team in the back parking lot. Bring your lawn chairs, something to drink, and probably a blanket for a great night under the stars at St. John’s. We hope to see you there.
